- Thorough knowledge of and expertise in Pacific Islands natural resource data, as applied to GIS applications and
mapping. Natural resources data include, native plants and animals, particularly threatened and endangered species, invasive species, and their biology and habitat requirements.
- Thorough understanding of and experience in field operations and procedures, including, rare species monitoring
and outplanting, weeding, and other habitat protection and invasive species control activities. Certified in pesticide forest use, remote medical training, chainsaw training, helicopter training and sling load training.
- Advanced skills in complex database management and organization, including relational joins and links to non-
spatial tables, attribute summarization and complex queries.
- Thorough knowledge of and expertise in the principles of cartographic design to effectively communicate and
express complex data.
- Extensive use of GIS/GPS software and relevant extensions (particularly ArcGIS 9.x, Arcview 3.X, Garmin GPS
downloading software) for various operations, including, spatial analysis using both raster and vector operations, digitizing, data conversion, editing and organizing.
- Extensive experience in assisting and training field crew and other staff on the use of GPS units, GIS and GPS
data integration, basic GIS editing, and data entry procedures for both GIS data and extensive rare plant/weed/snail/monitoring Access database.
- Military and community planning using Department of Defense information technology and CADD/GIS
Technology Center Spatial Data Standards (SDS).
- Coordination of multiple projects, prioritizing work assignments to meet established deadlines within budget
guidelines.
- Excellent communications skills, with proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team, managing
multiple tasks and performing work on time.
